We All Know About This I Guess

.
.
But I Thought I'd use is as a way to say I never believed in the stereotypical image of the cavemen, walking around grunting with their butts barely covered.

The Antikythera Mechanism

Update: Here is a great video about his device.  And there is a plethera of information about it on the internet..

It is thought that much more is described by the mathematics of the device than just eclipses and 'simple' motion of the planets.

  1. Hey kid - I've never heard of the Antikythera Mechanism - interesting how we find that blokes from generations gone by had just as much if not more smarts then us!

  2. and to think that the human mind has been able to logically think through problems and come up w/ solutions from ---well-- the beginning!!
maybe we are going backward - in some way---to think that just 200+ years ago our Founders knew how to read-write in several languages and completed higher ed at 14 years of age--John Q. Adams comes to mind---
    Great find ---love it!

  3. DeanO, I had hoped that someone hadn't read about it yet, and it would be a fun thing.
Anyway, yes it is quite the marvel, and a google search will bring up some interesting stuff.
And yes, there were some smart blokes in days gone by. Imagine their minds weren't clogged with lady gagme, britney, lindsey, and non-stop politics, sports, and whatever else and they actually had time to THINK. :)

  4. Carol-CS. No Doubt generations gone by Had to master many things more complicated than Most kids today.

I often realize that most animals are born with survival instincts far more complex and complete than humans.

At the same time, I think humans from the start demanded many basic things for themselves. Finer food, clothing, and answers. I think immediately, humans were quickly on the quest for higher education. So, YES! we have gone backwards except for parents who intervene.
