This vid is on again off again on youtube. Happened to look for it and it's there right now so I'm putting it out. Let's watch the man play one of his best (imo)
Hey! I played this piece on the piano when I was 11 years old, believe it or not.
Malaguena was originally written for the piano by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona in 1933 as the sixth movement of a suite called he Andalusia.
I learned it to please my father who was crazy about Oscar Levant's recording, which I found very inspiring needless to say.
Even though it was written for the piano, it sounds vowed good on the guitar. Must be Chet Atkins' own transcription of Lecuona's work. I wnder if he ever wrote it down? --
Chet Atkins was one of the most guitarists in the world. I was never much of a CW fan but my mother was. I grew to appreciate the classic CW artists as I grew older. The new age country music is like rap to me. It is nothing more than pop music dressed up with nasal tones.
UNK. Chet said (quite accurately) that modern country music killed country music. I agree. Modern country music makes my skin crawl. I'd actually listen to rap than that crap.
I expected Chet to start rapping at some point during the interlude to this. Way to get my hopes up... :/ seriously cool acoustic. Finger pickin' good.

Don't know Franco. He did record various versions of it. He liked it as much as we do apparently.
DeleteIf you'd like to hear the composer, himself, play Malaguena as orginally written, you can hear it at this link

Another selection by Ernesto Lecuona is included there which later became popular as a song called The Breeze and I.
