Yes, More Mammatus Clouds Please
Click the pic or suffer being the talk of the neighborhood.
If the link doesn't work, here is the description.
Explanation: When do cloud bottoms appear like bubbles? Normally, cloud bottoms are flat. This is because moist warm air that rises and cools will condense into water droplets at a specific temperature, which usually corresponds to a very specific height. As water droplets grow, an opaque cloud forms. Under some conditions, however, cloud pockets can develop that contain large droplets of water or ice that fall into clear air as they evaporate. Such pockets may occur in turbulent air near a thunderstorm. Resulting mammatus clouds can appear especially dramatic if sunlit from the side. The mammatus clouds pictured here were photographed over Hastings, Nebraska during 2004 June.

Never heard of them and (sadly) never seen them. I LOVE clouds since my cataract surgery and we have some beautiful ones here.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen these in person either A, but a couple times a year in Cincinnati, we get cloud formations that I would call biblical, like the clouds near the end of the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Light to dark and very active.
DeleteNorth Idaho specializes in HUGE cumulus clouds and where we are we have "big skies" so they are just fabulous.
DeleteSounds very nice. I enjoy exciting weather in any form.
DeleteBut exclude tornado's.
DeleteHurricanes aren't a whole lot of fun either.
DeleteBut I like nothing better than sitting on my porch in summer watching a thunderstorm approach, then spill torrents of rain splashing on the brick patio and drenching the garden. The air at such times has a fresh clean smell no other experience can equal.
And, of course, the sound of the rain on the roof always makes me feel safe, snug and increibly relaxed.
Franco, I don't mind rain as long as I don't have to be out in it.
DeleteSure. Call them clouds it it makes you feel better.
ReplyDeleteEd, Well, I guess I could all them moisture filled bazoooms ?
DeleteThey are the manifestation of the presence of the alien overlords.
DeleteLooks like a CRATE of EGGS turned upside down where –– miraculously –– the eggs don't fall out and break all over the ground.
ReplyDeleteMakes me feel as though I'm standing on my head. </;-D=
Actually they look like big dollops of shaving cream to me Franco.
DeleteThat too, Kid.
DeleteFull name is Cumulonimbusmamattus. Precursor of hail, high winds, tornados etc.
ReplyDeleteActually, the Cumulonimbus and Mamattus clouds are two different clouds but appear together.
DeleteI've got it! I'VE GOT IT!
ReplyDeleteIt's Mike Lindell's My Pillow Mattress Topper as seen from the top surface of the mattress.

Ok Franco !
