The Cat's Eye Nebula, Served Two Ways

First, a wider view we haven't seen before.

And here is what that dealy-whopper (The Cat's Eye we're more familiar with[those of us who have been intimate with it anwyay]) in the very middle looks like up close.

As always, click the pictures to go to the APOD site and read a detailed explanation written by a smart person, then click again while there to get larger versions of the picture (usually).

    1. Carol-CS, You can't have creation without a creator right?

I think we're getting our money's worth out of the Hubble and missions like Cassini to Saturn. Really great pics coming back from there.

    1. I love the Empty Chair concept. That's exactly what it is. I'm sure Clint's use of it was symbolic. Let's hope obama will be remembered that way.

      Happy Labor Day to you.

  5. Three thousand light-years away, a dying star throws off shells of glowing gas...

And at over four bucks for a gallon of gas (well over double since obama took office) for NASA and the Mohawk dude to send a rover there it would cost about... uhhhh, let's see... 1 Light Year = 5878625373183.61 Miles, multiplied by 3,000... carry the one... I'll get back to you on this.
