Another Tune I Tried To Play

100% Unsuccessfully.

Chet Atkins - Blue Angel.

And as long as I'm talking about tunes I love and can't play..  This one did embed. Brings tears to the eyes. Mine anyway.
It's a Spanish tune of course and it's like life. It starts slow, has melodic harmonic tones intertwined with hard driving notes, then moves between beauty and hardness until it ends far too soon leaving us to cry out that it cannot be over yet.

    1. Opus, I'd say that's my all time favorite guitar tune, regardless of who plays it or how it's arranged, but this is also my favorite arrangement too.

    2. Opus, Malaguena if you didn't notice the title.

  2. I liked BLUE ANGEL ...he's amazing. My uncle used to play MALAGUENA on the piano so this brought back nice memories of childhood; his playing influenced me to take lessons and I'll be forever grateful as I play so much today. Atkins influenced MILLIONS, what an honor that has to be!

    1. Z, when I was young my dad had a lot of Atkin's records, Blue Angel was on one of them and Maleguena on another. I used to play the records over and over. And Tiger Rag. Took lessons when I was 13, then just slowly got involved with other things. He did influence millions. George Harrisson is a Huge fan, played the same kind of guitar that Chet played back then. George wrote the liner notes for Chet's Picks on the Beatles LP. Everybody that was interested in guitar in the 50,s and 60's for sure knew who he was, event all the rockers.

  4. Two great tunes! Chet is simply amazing. I appreciate the frustration of not being able to play that well too. When the album this one is from came out I quit playing for months. :-(

I finally went and found a teacher who told me something I never forgot. "All the talent and technique there is don't add up to genius, but there would be a hell of a lot less music in the world if we all had to play like that."

    Keep picking!

    1. Viburnum, Thanks again, I've seen that one with Paco before - Fantastic ! I play it every once in a while. Really good stuff.

Explore Smokin Joe on youtube, the ones with he playing are all worth your time.

I can't wait for the next album to come out and see him live somewhere. Loads of talent and just needs a little maturity to his music and it will be incredible I think. Chet Atkins Plus Stevie Ray. Wow.
