Now This Story I Found Damn Interesting

The guys likely will too, but the ladies probably not so much.

Murphy's Law, Ejection systems for supersonic aircraft pilots, and automobile restraint systems.

  1. Well, this "lady" found it fascinating (although I will have to say that in reading what you wrote I was momentarily stopped by "Ejection systems." ;-)

They have other articles over there I want to read like "WHY AREN’T THE WINDOWS ALIGNED WITH THE ROWS OF SEATS IN COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT?" That's always annoyed my OCD tendencies.

    1. Glad you liked it Adrienne. You can enter your email on that site and get notices of new articles. Lots of interesting stuff comes out of there.

  2. A very interesting article, Kid. And remember ... no matter what hits the fan, it is never evenly distributed.

  3. Always interesting how and why people chose to get involved in projects such as this. A glutten for punishment is an understatement.

  4. I don't recall reading a more tedious essay, perhaps ever. If you found that article interesting, Kid, then you might enjoy "The comprehensive study on the appendage joints of the North American dung beetle." Fascinating stuff, if you are into tedium.

Perhaps of more interest, "The Life and Times of Tiny Tim and Miss Vicky," now THAT'S a page turner....

    2. Fredd, now I'm tempted to post a Stephen King novel for you. :-) Talk about a mind numbingly boring time waster.

  5. I cn't red it, because my old eyes just CAN'T anymore. I read less and less, but at east tr6 to thiN more and more.

My thought, however, it is this:

Our passion for trying to make things, easier, speedier and increasingly automatic is DEHUMANIZING us, and has, therefore, greatly reduced our QUALITY of LIFE.

There's ittle joy in life today, because we are so consumed with making more and more widgets faster and faster, then moving them in greayrt and greater numbers to more and more places where they can be sold in higher and higher prices there's just NO TIME LEFT to SAVOR the MOMENT.

Who was it who said, "Worksexpands to fill the time made available for it," or some such thing? When was the last time after a hard day of satisfying labor you paused, sat on your porch with your spouse to enjoy the evening scents of your garden and sip a tall, cold drink while quietly watching the sun sink below the horizon?

    1. We do that every day here Franco. Doing it right now after completing some outside work.

Well, here are the Cliffnotes. One Dr Plattt was obsessed with making ejection seats for supersonic flying jets safe for the pilots, so he personally tested restraint systems using a rocket sled and after many tests with higher speeds and quicker stopping times, he achieved surviving a rocket sled moving at 750 mph ++ and having it stop in 1.5 seconds generating 46 G's of force on his body. He moved on to the automobile restraint systems, inventing that confounded seat belt and air bag system.
