Coal Miners (not not minors!)

Stop me if you've heard this one...

Sixteen tons and what do you get?  Another day older and deeper in debt.  This was life for many.

Tommy does 300 concerts a year worldwide.  Go see him if you like guitar.

  1. Pure GENUS at work.

Tommy, you are the absolute BEST at what you do.

  2. Every ATOM in Tommy's body is totally INVOLVED with the music he makes.

No matter what he does, it's always amazing.

  3. If anybody's interested,Tennessee Ernie Ford introduces Sixteen Tons to the world was back when I was still a kid.

Here's a youtube link to that early recording:

    https://youtu.be/zUpTJg2EBpw

It made quite a hit at the time, although it didn't impress ME very much, since i was focused almost toally on Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and Debussy at the time –– and still am.

But TOMMY's version is Something Else –– way way up there near the stars.

No one calling himself a musician could dare fail to respect and admire Tommy Emmanuel.

    1. His runs aren't particularly clean and his arrangements are a bit disjointed.

“Don’t overplay. Don’t overplay. Less is more. It will always be: less is more. Nobody is ever going to remember all those fancy solos - even the guys that play them, most of them won’t remember - so play some licks that people can walk away humming, that people can identify with." --Steve Cropper

    2. He works very hard Franco. As he says, "most people aren't willing to put in the work, I am".

Duck - Music is art and therefore hard to pick for someone else. I love Tommy's music though personally, I enjoy a Joe Satriani since his compositions are complex enough that I can't memorize them and have them become boring in a short amount of time.
Given this - For a live performance, I'd go with Tommy.

    3. Quackpot will NEVER return to respond to any legitimate question you may put to him, Kid.

Everett "Quackpot" Canardo aka "DUCKY" lives SOLELY to to toss COLD ISS on others –– particularly if they happen to be articulate conservatives.

QUACKPOT is a cmmited MARXIST, Kid.

That's as bad as a committed ISLAMANIAC.

I won't allow the dirty SOB to post at MY blog.

What you choose to do about him is your own business, of course, but I cn tell you his knowedge of music is PATHETICALLY limited compared to men. I don't often say this, because I hate people who throw ther weght around, but I happen to have earned three college degrees in MUSIC from JUILLIARD preparatory, EASTMAN, MANNES COLLEGE of MUSIC, as a performer, composer and from NYU as a musical research scholar, so I do feel entitled to admire –– or reject –– ANY performer.

      I'll say it again:

Tommy Emmanuel may not be 'classically trained," but he is one of the very greatest musical talents EVER to emerge in the twentieth century in ALL forms of music expression.

But I'm here to tell you The Duck is POISON.

He IS educated, and he DOES have a decent side, which I have seen on rare occasions,
but he is a devoted disciple of SAUL ALINSKY, and as such does his best to SUPPRESS
his kinder, gentler, more reasonable feelings as much as possible.

The Duck, a pretentious ingnoramus when it cmes t music, never fails to talk strictly out of his foetid, feathered ass.

Jus' sayin' TYou can take it for whatever you think it might be worth.

    4. About Tommy's hard work I have no doubt, Kid, but unless you have that very rare SPARK of TRUE GENIUS, all the blood, sweat, tears and toil in the world would not be able to turn you into the equal of a Tommy Emmanuel.

I believe we've discussed this before.

I happen to be an excellent, very well-trained classical pianist. My YouTube offerings prove that conclusively, BUT –– even though worked my ASS off for decades doing my best to develop the talent I had, I was NEVER able to achieve what the greatest concert artists did.

In classical music 85-90% may be "good," ibut it's not good ENOUGH.

It's a hard lesson to learn, but having learned it, I am at least able to RECOGNIZE true genius when I hear it.

    5. Franco, Agree on duck. Maybe 1 out of a million comments from this troll are constructive. I'd Hate to be him as it would suck being negative 99% of the time.

Agree on Tommy. Some people have gifts, especially those that can compose timeless music.

    6. Now,now FreeThinke. My criticism of Emmanuel has nothing to do with my politics.

My lukewarm attitude to Emmanuel has some sound grounding. He's a mediocre vocalist at best.
His runs aren't particularly inventive and can be a bit ragged.

I think Cropper offers wisdom. After all, when Emmanuel is long forgotten, Dock of the Bay will still be going strong.

"An ass is an ass is an ass."

    8. Tommy is a great showman, obviously rehearses diligently and plays with plenty of razzle-dazzle, but I'm not convinced there's all that much musical information behind it. I've no dispute with his fans and I'm sure his shows are fun to watch, but for me there are less showy performers who deliver more substantial musical payloads. Have you heard Charlie Hunter? A very different approach to the challenge of intricate self-accompanied guitar.

    9. Charlie is an great player. Interesting guitars he plays. Music is like art. To each their own.

    1. Thanks Much Mr Eagle! - but we don't talk about the liberal/marxist/communists here.
I don't go to their sites or visit sites where they comment, so as far as I'm concerned they don't exist. I have better things to use my brain for.

Please refrain from talking about them here.

Please refrain from talking about them here. They are 3 yr old violent spoiled brats and nothing else needs to be said about them. They don't deserve the slightest attention.

I do wish they'd secede a few states and make their own communist paradise for themselves.

  8. The way I see it is, People who call themselves “progressive,” and they do so not just because it’s a nicer way of saying “liberal,” which has become a dirty word in the political sense, but they believe in the Socialist party which all of the progressives love and agreed with. The difference between progressivism and socialism is a very thin line. Both believe in the distribution of America's wealth, as do the fascists and neo-fascists object to the term and . When you reduce and limit my rights and freedoms while increasing yours, or someone else’s , you are in fact using the Constitution for toilet paper.
Bottom line: When we are up against some with people in a debate or better yet in a agreement who are so convinced of their own opinions and their moral superiority, and who want to change the world, and our way of life, we can’t help but to think of Adolf Hitler
Now I could be wrong but I don't think that I am.

    1. Mr Conservative. I've come to call liberals and progressives exactly what they are - Communists. They hate personal liberty and want the government in charge of everything to the point of taking over all the businesses. Communists. Hopefully we will all be calling them what they are. Language matters.

    2. Well, maybe that was a little strong.. Look, have you even looked at the blog? There are apparently a few of you commenters out there who cut and paste your long anti-progressive rants over a umber of blogs. Hey, it's great you're out there battling the communists, but spewing on blogs is going to have zero effect. Good luck to you.

To be clear, this is my blog and we don't talk about the commies here, especially the more disgusting ones, unless it's based in humor. I spent many years as an anti-progressive internet warrior and found that you will never change the mind of a libtard. Best to ignore them and as it happens that's what they hate the most is to be ignored.

    3. Kid, when it comes to a certain type of person, the less said the better.

The oddest, –– and probably the saddest thing –– about it is that idiots abound on BOTH sides of the Great Divide.

Notice how everyone, save the Duck, has commented about everything BUT Tommy Emmanuel and his wonderful approach to music. And the Duck, of course, only used my enthusiasm for Tommy as a way of insulting ME, which is ALL he ever cares about –– putting people down.

Stick to your guns, id, and keep tashing the trash. If you don't your place will become just another Internet DUMP or Public TPILET like WYD.

    4. Franco, well if people are trying to combat the commies, fine - great. But I've been there done that and on the internet, it is a complete waste of time. Progressivism isn't a belief system, it is a mental disease.

    5. AMEN, Kid, but just bitchin' and moanin' about how bad the Commies and the Moslems are isn't any fun ether, and that's ALL we get from far too many who claim to be on "OUR" side..

  11. If I were the Devil, the Prince of Darkness, what methods of deception would I use to rule the world? What areas of society would I target? What tactics would I employ? In the transcript below, Paul Harvey in 1965 airs one of the most astonishing monologues ever recorded. Now nearly 50 years later, everything that Paul Harvey said the Devil would have to do to rule the world, has come to pass. Paul Harvey was not a prophet nor were his words prophetic. How then did 100% of what he said in 1965 come true? Perhaps the Devil himself listened to the broadcast…what you are about to read will, without doubt, raise a few eyebrows and goosebumps. Enjoy…or rather, be appalled, with the rest of the story!

If I were the Devil, if I were the Prince of Darkness, I’d want to engulf the whole world in darkness and I would have a third of its real estate and four-fifths of its population, but I wouldn’t be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree, thee.

So I would set about however necessary to take over the United States. I’d subvert the churches first. I’d begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do as you please.”

To the young, I would whisper that the Bible is a myth. I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what is bad is good and what is good is “square.” And the old, I would teach to pray after me: “Our Father which art in Washington.”

And then I’d get organized. I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting. I’d make TV look worse than movies and then make movies look worse than TV in a vicious cycle that just gets worse and worse. I’d peddle narcotics to whomever [sic] I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.

If I were the Devil, I’d soon have families at war with themselves, churches at war with themselves, and nations at war with themselves, until each in its turn was consumed. And with promises of higher ratings, I’d have mesmerizing media fanning the flames.

If I were the Devil, I would encourage schools to refine young intellects but neglect to discipline emotions; just let those run wild until, before you knew it, you’d have to have drug-sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door. Within a decade, I’d have prisons overflowing. I’d have judges promoting pornography. Soon I could evict God from the courthouse, and then from the schoolhouse, and then from the houses of Congress. And in His own churches I would substitute psychology for religion and deify science. I would lure priests and pastors into misusing boys and girls and church money. If I were the Devil, I’d make the symbol of Easter an egg and the symbol of Christmas a bottle.

If I were the Devil, I would take from those who have and give to those who wanted, until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. And what will you bet I couldn’t get whole states to promote gambling as the way to get rich. I would caution against extremes in hard work, in patriotism, in moral conduct. I would convince the young that marriage is old-fashioned, that swinging is more fun, that what you see on TV is the way to be and thus I could undress you in public and I could lure you into bed with diseases for which there is no cure.
