Good Time for Tommy Atkins.
Those who understand why America is the greatest country in the world -
Still - will defend her regardless if they feel abused due to racism,
sexism, xenophobia or any other absurd social malady. Those who don't
will not defend her and will suffer the consequences when "America"
falls.
What happened they will scream ! You happened.
What a wonderful voice.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne, He did a nice job with such an emotional subject.
DeleteI believe we owe every person maimed, blinded, wounded or driven mad while fighting in our armed services ALL of the FOLLOWING:
ReplyDelete1. A generous tax-free income for life
2. A good, generousky proportioned house in the town of the veteran's choice
3. Free Medical Care for Life –– at the BEST, and most CONVENIENT medical facility –– OR at one the very BEST Hospitals in the nation in extreme cases..
4. Free Domestic Assistance on a Daily Basis for the wives and other family members who nurse and tend to the needs of veterans damaged in the line of duty.
As I've said before, I believe Public Moneys ought to be focused more on RESTITUTION to VICTIMS instead of on PUNISHMENT of PERPETRATORS.
FT, I'll add to that and say any veteran who has served America well, and there are lots of measures dealing with awards of all sort, should be given these things proportional to their service.
DeleteProportional Tax-free income as a pension based on 20 years service (already do that) or service above and beyond regardless of years.
Heck yea, give them a house with no property tax, again proportional to service.
We should give all veterans a pre-paid medical card they can use for medical needs for themselves and their families and delete the VA. Just deleting the VA would more than pay for this.
Domestic assistance when needed. This is also a jobs program for those doing the assisting.
Victims? Yea, victims and their families get jack nothing out of this country. They are often treated worse than the perps.
In sumamry, look at how much money we spend on people that do not offer anything positive to America and more often, lots of negative things. Their lives are completely paid for as they sit around doing drugs, not taking care of their kids, and voting for human scum to 'lead' the country.
Entirely too many think of veterans and those who gave their all only on special occasions. I'm all for society repaying their service in tangible ways every day. I'd rather my tax money went to them than the ne'er do nuffin good.
DeleteCube, Yep, not to mention all the other money that gets tossed and stolen.
DeleteTommy this, and Tommy that... I think Tommy should step aside if these allegations true. - Mitch McConnell
ReplyDeleteDaBlade, McChuckles is hopefully serving (self-enriching) his last 3 years in American government.
DeleteMy God! I just got to the video. DIdn't recognize Roger Moore at first. I only knew him as The Saint and James Bond and other lightweight, sophisticated "playboy" roles. LIke all British professional actors and actresses he was well trained to use his voice to the greatest possible advantage. It's always a joy to hear those guys say ANYTHING.
ReplyDeleteThe poem is great, but Moore's dramatic reading made if magnificent.
Moore just died last May at the age of 90. A life well spent!
It's a good one FT.
DeleteKipling is a favorite. It must be part of our culture, for neither the British or American government has ever given much thought to Tommy ... and this has been going on forever.
ReplyDelete“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice; a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice, — is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.” -John Stuart Mill
Mustang, it makes me think of the eternal struggle between good and evil. It has always been with us and it will always be with us.
DeleteI and a few friends refrained from the free meals offered yesterday.
ReplyDeleteWe served for many reasons, but never to get a free meal on November 11th.
It's nice to have gratitude, but this country has given me far more than I've given her.
Of course, many have given far more than I.
Ed, a superior attitude of course. I still would like to see some of what FT was talking about. Seems like when service is done, our vets are dumped on the side of the road. Many can deal with that and just move on. Some can't.
DeleteYa, that's a very good poem...bravo, Mr. Moore
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites Z. Timeless. Accurate. Irrefutable.
Deletelove all of your 'side bar' "thoughts" - the one on drunk driving gave me a smile -- and thank you for the R.Moore video --
ReplyDeleteThank You C-CS :)
