    2. The image makes a perfect complement to your Debussy post this weekend, AOW. I'm sure if folks went over to your blog and listened to Debussy's Three Nocturnes with that thought in mind, they'd see right away what I mean.

"Nuages" would make SUPERB background music for Kid's Watercolor by God post.

    1. Mustang. Yea, and I'm still trying to get out of that mortgage. I guess I'll have to dump the place.

  4. The Sky from a Nineteenth-Century Poet's Perspective

The brain is wider than the sky,
__ For, put them side by side,
The one the other will include
__ With ease, and you beside.

The brain is deeper than the sea,
__ For, hold them, blue to blue,
The one the other will absorb,
    __ As sponges, buckets do.

The brain is just the weight of God,
__ For, lift them, pound for pound,
And they will differ, if they do,
    __ As syllable from sound.

    ~ Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)

What do you suppose she meant when she wrote this? I'm sure she didn't want us to take her words literally.

    1. Got me FT. As I read it I was disagreeing. I don't think we can ever imagine the contents of the universe. 10 trillion galaxies. If you could count one a second, it would take you 326,780 years. And imagine our natl debt is twice that amount of dollars.

    2. Actually just by featuring these pictures from Outer Space so often YOU do an amazingly good job of imagining the vastness, complexity, incredible beauty, infinite possibilities –– and the dangers –– in all Creation, Kid.

Poets have so much vivid imagination and keen insight into the Heart of Truth they sometimes express things no one could possibly know for a fact that are, nevertheless, true.

We would never have come to learn ANYTHING if it weren't for our capacity for creative thinking inspired by flashes of INSIGHT. So in that sense I think she was right.

    3. FT, thank you, but I just pass the big picture along. APOD is who gets the credit.

You make good points. I won't claim I know more than anyone else, and insight is an incredible thing, but compared to All of it? I'll stick with my view.

    4. I'm not arguing with you, Kid. I agree. NO O could possibly know it ALL, –– not even the greatest minds in human history could ever claim that. Anyone who did would not have a great mind, he would be insane.

Nevertheless, just being AWARE that you DON'T know it all is a sign that you DO know a great deal more than the average guy.

From where I sit, genuine humility like that is pretty rare, and as close to holiness as any of us could hope to get.

All of which is only saying, "I think you're on a right track, Kid." Keep up the good work. };-)>

    5. FT, I have come to realize also that the more you know, the more you know you don't know.

      Thanks Much !

    1. Ed, Lately I've been painting in blood mixed with food coloring to give me the different hues....

Naw... Kidding. Whatever works for you. Art is a very enjoyable pastime. I used to and am looking forward to doing it again.

    2. Ed, Actually, I'm thinking of disguising myself as a homosexual and get rich by doing female body painting. What could be better ?
