We're Paying For This

So the TV is on in the kitchen as I walk through and I have to stop and torture myself by observing this asinine commercial that has music written for 2 and 3 year old children with a repeating graphic that simply says "Be careful when you use the internet"

WTF?

First off, any person actually requiring such advice will get jack shit benefit out of the phrase "Be careful when you use the internet".  I can hear them now, their little brainless heads tilting back and forth like Beagles when they hear an unfamiliar sound as they ask the non-responsive TV "Ok, What does That Mean?"

The TV offers them no quarter.  The TV moves on to trying to sell them an air mattress at some grossly perverted price, or a can of spray goo that they can use to foul their beautiful counter tops as well as get another can for free, just paying some grossly perverted price for 'postage and handling' - but hey, a $370 value for 2 cans of crap that would cost all of 6 bucks if they went out and found some.  Can't Beat THAT!

  2. It's kinda like when you were a teenager going out on a date, and you Mom said, "Be careful." You never quite knew what she meant.

  3. When you are young, the term "careful" is subjective. No matter what I did, I was never careful enough.

Too many kids with no internet parental over-watch.

  4. I love public service announcements, although I think that anyone whose injury comes as the result of texting while driving deserves what happens to them. It ranks up there with “Just say no,” “Take a bite outta Crime,” and “Buckle up Dummies.” Of course, buckling up deprives the local community of much needed graft ... er., I mean, revenue, so we don’t see that announcement very often any more. Besides, if people started exercising care when using the internet, then Craig’s List, Face Book, and Think Progress would close down, causing the unemployment of millions of people—and that would make YOU responsible for the down turn in the American economy.

I hope you feel proud of yourself.

  5. A perfect world: don't work, draw money from the government, and never have to worry about taxes ever again.

Is this a great country, or what?
