Mechanical Computer Built by Ancient Greeks.

Well, what else did they have to do ?

The meat of the information on the device begins around the 4:13 mark.

There are longer more detailed vids on youtube for anyone who wants to delve further into the device.

    1. Yes Z. Bronze. Course the Chinese were smelting Iron 3000 year ago using coal, hardwoods and a bellows. Inventive people those ancient ones.

Check out some of the other vids. More detail on how it was made, inscribed, etc. stc.

  3. Sure it wan't a "friendly's from "outside" that paid a visit and dropped it off? I had heard about it some time ago and it is a stunner... the more we learn the less we know.... :)

    2. Hi Bunk, I moderate comments and haven't been around the computer today...
It could have been Aliens :)
There were some awfully smart people in times gone past. Not a lot of distractions maybe

  4. I had read about it some time ago... are you sure it wasn't dropped off by some "outside" visitors from somewhere else? The more we learn the less we know... :)

  5. That folder is very thick, Ed!

This is fascinating. And Mr. B enjoyed it too. It's right up there with "how did the ancient Chinese electroplate?" My guess is these ancients had a less damaged gene pool.

    1. More vids on it with fascinating info, Much longer though. So glad to hear you both enjoyed it :)
I keep thinking there was a lot less mind numbing distraction like TV, radio, etc which allowed minds more free to wonder and wander,

      Thanks Baysider.

  7. This has fascinated me for ages. Now, given the expertise involved, were they able to make accurate clocks? And would these account for anomalous longitude/latitude maps (Piri Reis etc).

    Hmmm.

    1. LSP, I believe if you have the timing of the planets down, you could navigate well across the oceans using a reliable clock. I don't know about the maps. The maps I've seen were not very good for a long time but maybe that would have taken too many positioning voyages around the shorelines and didn't pay as well as finding spice routes. :)
