That Saturn pic is astonishing...hexagon, who knew? They're all beautiful, such fabulous colors, formations...but that Saturn thing is really interesting!! Thanks, Kid!
I wonder why the Abstract Expressionists ever bothered to daub canvasses with their bizarre, "non-representational" images, when NATURE has always had an unlimited display of fantastic, ever-changing phenomena far more exciting than anything WE have been able to devise.
Agree Saturn is the most intriguing, but I'll be darned if I can see a HEXAGON anywhere in that picture. What I DO see is a rainbow of myriad concntric circles or ellipses.
Have we ever seen Saturn's "rings" up close and personal? Are they stationary, or do they enage in circular motion as Saturn circles around the Sun? If they move, do they all move at the same rate at the same time, or at individual rates of speed?.
Thanks, Kid. And here I've only known "Cassini" as a famous hollywood dress designer, who married at least one famous movie star I think Cassni's first name was "Oleg," if i remember rightly.
I wonder how this incredibly powerful tool for far distant Space Exploration of the outer limits of our solar system came to bear that name?
i doubt if it had anything to do wth Hollywood or dress designing. );^√≈
I did read through the list of "Cassini's" astonishung accomplishments, and can only wonder why we've never heard any of this on the so-called News stations?
Astronomer Giovanni Cassini is associated with a number of scientific discoveries and projects, including the first observations of Saturn's moons. For this reason, the Cassini spacecraft that launched in 1997 and plunged into the planet in 2017 was named after him..

Here is a short movie about the hexagon Z.
Delete"circles the North Pole" OUR North Pole?" So it's hurricanes....fascinating..........thanks!
DeleteThat is Saturn's north pole Z. Huge forever storms on Jupiter too. Very inhospitable solar system we have here.
DeleteThat made a most welcome change from burning churches and the corporate sponsored Marxist putsch. Thx!
ReplyDeleteThe big picture keeps me sane LSP.
DeleteThat first one sort of looks like my pre-operative thumb.
ReplyDeleteMustang, I had a fingertip that looked like that after an encounter with a 1/2 wide DADO blade on a table saw. All better now.
DeleteSaturn sure is something special.. The universe is an amazing thing and always good to have a reminder.
ReplyDeleteYou know it Bunk. Takes us away from all the vermin running around and being talked about ad nauseam on this spec of dust.

Quite a bit of information here on Saturn from the Cassini Mission Franco.
DeleteCassini flew through the gap in the rings as it settled into orbit around Saturn.
The hexagon is the green yellow band surrounding the red areas in the center.
