Well Ok then, One More Chet Before We Change Channels.

  1. I keep calling for a video of Tiny Tim's timeless classic of 'Tiptoe Through The Tulips," Kid, but you keep ignoring me.

Who's this Chet guy, anyway? And can he play the guitar?

    1. Fredd, I'm the most eclactic music listener I know, but Tim will never grace these pages.

    2. No Tiny Tim, huh Kid? You know what you are? A Weirdo-phobe. That's right; you hate weirdos.

I'll bet you hate Weird Al Yankovic, too. And Zamphir (the pan flute guy)...I bet the list goes on.

    3. Hang on there Fredd, I was a Frank Zappa fan for a good while. I believe this exonerates me. Just ask Weird Al. Frank and I were the first to warn America about the Slime Comin Out From their TV Set. Apparently, it had only limited effect and now no effect.

    4. JUST FOR YOU, FREDD:

      Tiptoe through the poo poo
At the websites in the blogosphere, then
Tiptoe thought through the poo poo and see
Me try to tiptoe ‘round the witless.
Join me quickly; do it gin-ger-ly,
And tiptoe through the poo poo with me.

Knee deep in doo doo we’ll sink
      Sniffing the ungodly stink,

And when I slip slide through the doo doo
      And you do too
      Will you pardon me
And sit down in the doo doo with me?

And when we step out of the poo poo
      at the website
      Will you come with me,
And wash off all the poo poo with me?

PS: To be honest that bit of fluff was prepared to counter the wandering tribes of leftist trolls who dive bomb decent conservative sites with their particular brand of "poo-poo." But I just couln' resist taking advntage of an opportunity like this. I hope Kid hasn't been offended? As far as I'm concerned Herbert Khaury (Tiny Tim) was strictly for laughs, but I never thought him very funny.

    5. Franco: I dunno. It just isn't the same without the weirdo's falsetto voice grating on you like fingernails on a chalkboard. Poo poo? Heh heh heh (my best Bevis and Butthead imitation...)

  2. Ths s a younger Chet, isn't it, Kid? He looks cool in the more formal outfit. Less "Country" –– more "New York."

I don't know about you, but I call this JAZZ. Whatever you want to call it, it's terrific. There's something amazingly RESTFUL about Chet's playing. It soothes down me innards. ;-)

Much better version than Roger Wiliams's tired old descending broken chromatic sales!

    1. Franco, I'm guessing early 40's here. Chet didn't want to be known as a country guitar player and if you look at his body of work, there is very little 'country' there. But part of his record buying audience were country so out some country type tunes did go.

Gretch Guitars was the first to put out a guitar with Chet's name on it. Early in the vid you can see it has a cowboy type logo on the pick guard. Chet hated it but accepted it anyway without saying anything because it has his name on it.

This was more Chet's style Concert style guitar and a Tux.

    3. Hard to beat some of these Franco, but I will endeavor to find some.

    4. Both; Chet and Tommy are easy to find on YouTube, Kid. Thanks to you, I've grown to like them a lot.

Since you love the sound of the guitar so much, I'd like you to do us both a favor, take seven minutes out of your life, and listen to THIS guy:

I'm not suggestng tihs kind of guitar music is "better," but knowing about it opens up whole new vistas of potential listening pleasure.

Andres Segovia (1893-1987) was the DEAN of classical guitar for most of his 94 years. If you're the least bit curious about classicl guuitar, other names to google would be Julian Bream, John Williams, Leona Boyd, and the Romeros. I'm sure there are many others besides those by now. Interest in the guitar is growing, preaise the Lord!

And while we're at it, I used to love listening to Tony Mottola (1918-2004). Maybe you could favor us with some of his work too once in a while. Mottola was fellow Jerseyite, so naturally I feel a special findness for his work. };^)>

With so MUCH amazing and really great stuff in the world I can't help but wonder why most people seem to enjoy being OBSESSED with everything ugly, nasty, stupid and threatening.

Thank YOU for staying positive so much of the time, Kid. It's an important "public service" you're performing.

    5. Thanks Franco, I've listened to some Segovia.

Here is a very young Paco De Lucia

There have been SO many good players but not so many GREAT players over the years that you couldn't list them all. Which is pretty amazing.

Joe Pass is also a big name in Guitar.

With Rameros, you remind me of someone a while back who did fingerstyle guitar with a similar name but I can't put my finger on him. Old stuff so recording quality isn't great but the quality of play is still obvious. I'll try to remember who that was.

And Jerry Reed was a force of playing and writing. Jerry and Chet made a couple albums back in the day "Me and Chet" and "Me and Jerry" Good stuff - country oriented.

      Some Jerry Reed
      The boy could play.

Thanks Franco for the keeping it positive compliment. I have to man, I find extremely little value in popular culture these days and zero value in American and World Politics.

  3. Franco, Tommy says "When you watch Chet play he's so casual about it it's easy to miss what's going on there is really pretty tough." No doubt Chet was a player that Made Tommy a better player also.

  4. Chet Atkins was old when I was in my twenties. When I worked at a local FM station, they had a large collection of Chet Atkins music. He could play pretty much anything, including Los Indios Tabajaras. Those guys were good, too.

    1. Bob, Chet was a producer at RCA, and although playing and recording guitar, he spent most of his time producing other artists.

My advice is skip through the various performances and listen to the testimonials.

    2. Chet may have passed away at age 77, but he will NEVER be "old," as long as there are discriminating ears to hear his recorded legacy. Many players are GOOD, but CHET was GREAT –– really in a class by himself till Tommy Emmanuel came along. ];^)>

Chet didt just play melodies with strummed chordal accomaniment, he arranged most of the songs he played n actual COUNTERPOIN. That means he had three or fur INDIVIDUAL melodic lines gong on simultaneously each maintaining its separate identity while still remaining an intgral part of the whole.

You almost have to BE a muician to appreciate the wonder asnd glory of that achievement. I happen to be a well-trained musician, myself, and am still a very GOOD pianist, but the idea of an UNTRAINED individuals doing what Chet Atkins did spontaneously –– entirely on his own –– means the mn was an authentic genius.

Authentic geniuses have always been in short supply, and rarely have they been properly appreciated in their day. Yet the word would be much the poorer for their absence, and peoe would SENSE that even if they didn't know why.

  5. Hey, Kid. I wantto thank you for leading me to that increibe video of the man who swims with croco]dles. It's so terrific I added it to my latest post featrng the old guy in Pennsylvanja who keeps a five foot lng pet alligator in hs house, and akes it to visit Senior Centers and other places. Both are AMAZING stories, and though they are definitely WEIRD, I find them encouraging.

If two mature men ca nenjoy what-amounts-to-a OVE AFFIAR with great big fearsome-looking REPTILES, maybe President Trump WILL be able to tame that bitch on jet skis, Nanny Pelousy after all, though frankly I'd prefer to deal with he crocodiles, myself. };-)>

    1. I'd much prefer to deal with Crocs. At least they're honest in either being your friend or foe.

  6. Not to change the subject...BUT...
Even President Obama agrees — Donald Trump won, period. But when Trump dares to suggest in a Sunday tweet that illegal aliens voted in the election, the media respond with massive denial.

"In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally," Trump tweeted to the barely concealed contempt of many in the media.

And to prove that, The Dept. Of Homeland Security found that 12 million Plus votes were never counted for TRUMP in 2016.
