  2. Andrea Boccelli, the blind Italian tenor, singing Time to Say Goodbe while we get to enjoy magnificnt fireworks at close range up in the sky.

    What an INSPIRED combination!

The song –– an unusual blend of popular and classical elements, as is Bocceli, himself ––, never affected me so deeply before.

Maybe I ought t be ashamed to admit it, but this beautiful video brought me close to tears. Perhaps because I know I am getting closer and closer to MY time to say "goodbye" to this life, but more because I truly fear that our once-magnificent, uniquely beautiful NATION is moving relentlessly close to the Brink of Extinction.

Forgive me for being, perhaps, too mournful –– too serious –– on this Labor Day weekend, but I have always thought that Beauty was God's strongest and most important attribute. Few "theologians" would agree with me, of course, just as few realize what I'm about to say, but LIFE without BEAUTY would NOT be WORTH LIVING.

Thanks, Kid. This was a great, unexpected internet experience.

Do you and yours do anythung special to celebrate Labor Day? We always did, but people seemed to regard the official holidays as more important when I was young ––not just an excuse to overeat and get drunk. My family always made a big deal of all of them from Christmas right on down the line.

I miss my family, and wish they were still with me, but in a very real sense they sttill ARE, because I wouldn't be who I am and wouldn't have enjoyed life as I have if it hadn't been for them.

    Take care!

    1. BEAUTIFUL sentiment Franco. Thank you. Maybe someday I can craft a happy ending for America. Have to admit it's a tall order.

Well, this labor day we'll be putting the cover on the pool :)

In my younger days, much younger, our families would get together for a picnic at one of my uncle's houses. The kids would play and the adults would sit and talk. Most were WWII vets. Good times.

    2. Samehere. They sreu were good ti[mes, Kid. We're lucky to have had them.

What will today' kids have to remember when they start to age? Protest Marches? Campus Riots? Getting Wrecked on Drugs? Group Sex? Mass Shootings?

    3. Franco, a long list of negative things to be sure.

With the stereotypical millennial, I'd say not many good memories will be made.

Imagine all the time they are purely wasting on being social justice warriors.

    4. PS - Thanks for the info on this Franco. "Andrea Boccelli". I'll have to check him out some more. I do seem to like the Italian Opera stuff a bit.

  3. Yes, it's just an excuse for another sale these days....what happened to parties, barbecues, whatever? Not that I'm big on honoring labor unions, but..!!!

    1. I have thought of labor day as a day for all working people rather than just union. Anyway, I now see all holidays as days where people should go spend lots of money for those who are collecting it. Economy. Spend Spend Spend! :)
