Just Putting This Into a Link Rather Than Try to Email the Vid.
This is our beagle Webster, who started out as a foster, but ended up here full time. The black lab is Buddy and isn't with us anymore. He's walking in fields of tall grass... Webster is still doing Ok, has a good time with our cats and swims in the pool in the summer with a life jacket on. He's not that hard to take care of really and as long as he's having a good time, I won't regret having the back surgery operation. One of his disks 'calcified' and a piece broke off and get between the spine and spinal column, taking out the use of his back legs. At this point we don't think he'll recover them. This vid is Webster Breezin.

Talk about SPUNK!! I love that little doggie and his 'folks' for having made his life so much better than it would have been! AAAHHH!!
ReplyDeleteWell, for goodness sake! I had no idea this was YOUR DOG till I saw your email :-) And I talked about his 'folks' not knowing it was you!! That is so wonderful...
ReplyDeleteNo Prob Z. Well, don't judge people who don't go this route. It's expensive.
DeleteHe does have a good time though. In the morning when he sees his breakfast on the way, he jumps up and down using his front legs to rotate off the floor. Boing Boing Boing. Hard not to love him and put a little effort in. We've fostered dogs and cats, so having a special needs animal is not that big of a deal for us. :)
Gosh, I think you misread me, I'm sorry! It looks like he's having nothing but a good time! I'm not judging anybody, I saw the dog and the terrific little wheels and thought how clever it was as a way to get him moving...I think it was wonderful that you did this!
ReplyDeleteYou said "I won't regret having the back surgery operation." So you DID have the surgery and it didn't work, or?? He sure does seem like a very happy little dog!
Z, No, I didn't misread you or see anything amiss with your comments. My fault. When I replied I was thinking in terms of people who may read this and wonder whether they would commit to having the operation done on their dog. "It's expensive". And it's a long term commitment to take care of them from that point forward.
DeleteWe did have them do the surgery, and it did not result in him getting his back legs moving again. He does have a good time the vast majority of the time. ;-) No regrets. I do wish he could get his mobility back though, he was a whirling dirbish of a dog. Always flying around and jumping. From that aspect there's a little regret, but we don't control such things eh?
Kid,
ReplyDeleteI applaud you for a HUGE heart! I believe you know of my and my family's love of dogs and this is just wonderful!
I have never had a dog with such needs so to be honest I am not sure what route I would take but pray given the means I would do as you have done as it seems quite apparent Webster is in no need of pain medication and is living a full life of fun and love.
Raising a glass to you my friend and Webster!
Thanks for your thoughts Christopher. You don't see it much when you're out, but there are a lot of dogs in this condition apparently. There's a good bit of products on the shelf to support them.
DeleteHe's definitely not in pain and all the cats play with him, so it's all pretty much good. Little more to taking care of him, but not a big deal once you're in the groove.
Have a great weekend !
All animals just love to live don't they. Thanks for letting him run again.
ReplyDeleteAdmiral, yep, they're the lucky ones aren't they ;-)
DeleteLooks like you've given Webster a whole new outlook on life. Just great!
ReplyDeleteHe's doing Good TCL. Pool time coming up, he enjoys that with the lifejacket on.
DeleteAhhh, Bless little Websters Heart, Kid, and may Buddy, RIP.
ReplyDeleteI missed seeing this earlier, so busy around here.
What a delightful video, made my day. Webster looks SO happy and well cared for, and he doesn't have a care in the world.
You and your wife are blessed for taking such good care of him. He's simply adorable, and he's lucky to have you.
Hi Bunni, Webster is almost always happy. I put him int he cart in the morning and he wheels out for breakfast. He's hopping up and down on his front feet while I make it. boing boing boing :)
DeleteThanks.
Buddy was such a great dog. Got along with every other animal we had or fostered here. A super star for sure.
