Eta Carina may have gone supernova 7400 years ago, but it will be another 100 years before we find out about it. Damn !

Considering the speed of light, the time it will take us to learn the facts of what happened is quite telling about the distances involved. Here's what I do not understand: given the belief that there was a super nova, then what is the source of that light? So many questions, so little time.
ReplyDeleteSam, Light travels at 186,000 (and change) miles per second. I'm sure you now that. Anyway, those darned exploding stars that put heavy metals such as gold into the universe get pretty damn bright when they explode. Maybe even as bright as Alexandria O-Cortez when she remembers how to make a vodka tonic for a paying customer.
Delete"What is the source of that light?" he asks........hmmmmm :-) Sounds like every major scientist over the centuries....SOme of us think we know, Sam! :-)
ReplyDeleteZ, No One Knows. No one knows anything. All things are theories. Even undeniable mathematical things are little more than theories.
DeleteI have theories but I don't give them freely.
Wasn't there a song "Carina Carina"? Actually, I guess it was CORRINA CORRINA?!! (Of course, I'm WAAAY too young to remember it!!!!)
ReplyDeleteZ, Corina Carina ? You've got me there. I'm too old for that one.

ReplyDeleteIt's before MY time, but I REMEMBER it :-)
Sorry Z, I do not remember that one. Sounds very Buddy Holly-ish though. 50's?
