It Would Seem Everything in the Universe is Slow Moving

365 days for the Earth to revolve around the Sun, Millions of years for the Earth to make a full rotation of the Milky Way galaxy, everything else suspended in the deep space around us like frozen objects that won't change at all in many of our lifetimes put together.  It's enough to bore the feet off a road runner.

Not this guy.  This entire galaxy is zooming along at 7 million Kilometers per hour. That is 4,349,598.346 miles per hour.  The folks living there must be having a grand time.  Do they know they are moving or do they think everything else is moving.

  1. Our whole world is less than a single grain of cous cous in the Great Cosmic Soup.

Each of us is the equivalent of a sub-atomic particle, and yet EVERYTHING MATTERS.

    1. FT, cous cous seems too large in this context. The scene above may not even be a pin prick on the sky. But yes, Everything matters to some one or some thing. A valuable thought.

    2. A great lifelong friend of mine, once my teacher, now close to 93 years of age is something of a mystic. He told me long ago about Dr. Lewis Thomas, the famed Pulitzer Prize winning author, poet and long time director of the Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in New York. Thomas wrote several books of metaphysical essays based on his intimate knowledge of biological science among them The Lives of a Cell and The Medusa and the Snail –- amazing stuff. At any rate Dr. Thomas came to the conclusion that, despite what seems to be abundant evidence to the contrary, the thing that binds the Cosmos together and keeps it from exploding into Chaos is, as he put it, "something like AFFECTION." That may sound really "far out," but this was man thoroughly grounded in the physical sciences, a renowned medical expert, and certainly no crackpot. I've read some of his stuff, and find it very persuasive and encouraging. You might like it, yourself.

    3. FT, I don't understand the word Affection in this context. I'd call it something else, maybe Wonder. Any sane person looking around and seeing life in all it's forms integrated with all the other life and even the inanimate as both dependent and supporting of the other life in this huge matrix just demands respect. It would be hard to say affection because of the predatory nature of everything. Beautiful yet violent beyond people's capacity to observe for long. The cycle of life and death.

  3. FreeThinke: I'm familiar with Dr. Lewis Thomas' work. Affection might be construed as attraction. Even subatomic particles do it.

    1. Yes. Exactly. "Something like AFFECTION" was the way he put it. I thought it a most attractive concept, myself. He certainly knew more than i could ever hope to learn, so I feel it may be possible to trust his powers of insight.

I do know for a fact that Metaphysics is not BS. What "we" are able to perceive with our limited physical capacities is only the tiniest fraction of Something more immense and more complex than we could imagine.
