I Hate Tax Time

Honestly, having to file taxes is a genuine pain, and adds insult to injury.  The government is going to take what it wants.  We need a tax system that does not involve filing or refunds.  Given the mutli-billions stolen from the IRS (given away by the IRS) via the refunds system to criminals and illegals and people in other countries even, it is time to abandon the refund system.  We won't of course.

Update:  A Pic for AOW. Our tortoise shell calico - Hootie.  Browns, black, light brown, reds, light green eyes.

She was an orphan kitten who found us.  She hopped onto the front porch and asked If I'd make her a sandwich.

  1. You're cat, Kid?

Looks very much like the one I wrote about today who sadly departed this life on January 12.

THEY know much better than we what to do with odious paperwork, don't they? ;-)

    I love cats.

    1. FT, No, this is from the net. We do have one similar, a long hair Tortoise Shell (color) Calico. She doesn't take anything from any of the other 3 cats. And they seldom try to give her any either.

Yes, we've always had cats, did some orphan kitten fostering about 10 years ago, moved into our current house around that time and had 13, and now 4. All of them were great Individuals.

Spoken like a true cat lover!

    3. Individuals? They sure are that. Anyone who really interacts with cats and really gets to know them would agree.

    4. AOW, Yes, I am. I updated the post and added a picture of the Calico. I'd say Our Calico, but she'd disagree with that.

  2. How timely for me! Getting my tax figures together today to deliver to the accountant. Odious task!

    2. FT,
She's take care of the matter in her own way, I'm sure. **wink**

  3. Kid: we have cats, too, both as individual as the day is long. I've never heard of a 'tortoise shell calico,' as we have a torty also (CeCe) in addition to a white, brown, black and orange standard calico (Cali), both female of course.

Taxes: I take my shoe box into our accountant each year, and its no fun at all, at least for me. But our accountant loves this stuff, just about as much as that cat loves it. He just digs into it like a pig into slop.

    1. Our finest cat, whom we called Schmagoggy, was the only Tortoise Shell-Tiger-Striped-Calico I ever knew. ;-) Just a regular old domestic shorthair -- one from a litter deposited in our yard one summer by a feral mother, -- but Lord she was beautiful. Her coat looked like what you'd see in a cut crystal decanter filled with Harvey's Bristol Creme Sherry after it had been shaken vigorously and then held up to the sunlight.

Schmagoggy was the only altruistic cat I've ever known -- always patient, kind and generous to other animals-- and to us. I don' know if you're familiar with the Uncle Wiggly stories, but we always said she reminded us of Nurse Jane Fuzzy Wuzzy, the Muskrat Housekeeper made famous in Howard R. Garris' beloved stories popular in my childhood.

She made friends with me while I was weeding the flowerbed along the driveway when she still a tiny kitten and stayed with me a full twenty years.

    2. Fredd, FT, Post updated with picture. FT, your story sounds like mine and Hootie's. I was on the front stoop installing a storm door and she came up on the porch and asked if I'd make her a sandwich. She was about as big as a 50 cent piece and most of that was fur. She's been with us 17 years now. Still likes to play and still takes no guff from the young boys who also live here. She's never lost a showdown.

The best cat who ever lived bar none. ;-) You would have loved her. Everyone did -- even people who thought they didn't like cats.

    1. Carol-CS, I'm down with that.
You know, last year the fraud just with fed tax returns was 26 Billion plus. It is obvious the government does not care that it is happening or wants it to happen because it would be frickin simple to stop.

  6. Kid!
    Hootie is absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you so much for posting that photo -- the portrait of feline contentment.

Does she have a tortitude? Our ebony tortie doesn't, but our light-gray tortie does. Feeding time here is intense!

    1. How old is Hootie?

      Does she meow or chirp?

    2. AOW, Thank you and I'll pass it along but I think she knows already ;-)

Oh yes, she has an attitude. When she wants love she won't take no for an answer, but when she doesn't she is a don't touch me girl. Lol.

    3. AOW, PS, I've only heard her meow. Our male cats do some chirping and talking though.

  7. Your HOOTIE is a GORGEOUS specimen of cathood. I'm green with envy that you have her and I don't .;-)

Since I was a little kid I've always had a special fondness for fluffy, "Persian" or "Angora" cats, as we used to call them.

    Thanks for posting Hootie's picture.

    1. FT, Maybe you can find one at a shelter?

She is a neat cat. Tiny little thing when she showed up, Loves to drink water off of plant leaves or condensation on cans, and no doubt that's how she got her water for her first 7 months age that the vet estimated for her when she moved in. We had other animals and I just feel sure she cased the place before inviting herself in. Seeing other cats in the house.

She wasn't bigger than an electrical outlet plate when she arrived.

  8. Every semester, I have my history students research, then turn in a list of the taxes that we pay, with an estimate of the percentage they pay out of their earnings. No one ever finds all the taxes, and most everyone is peeved at the percentage. It's a good exercise in common sense for potential voters.

    1. Euripedes,
      A good reality check.

I do something similar when I teach a high school Economics course to my homeschoolers.

    3. Euripides,
Most of my students are too young for those possibilities. That said, they are, overall, planners; so they see what's ahead for them.

  9. TAX TIME....I was literally just going through papers dividing CHARITY, EXPENSES, and INCOME for my accountant and opened your site! PERFECT TIMING.
I hate this, too! BUT, I am determined to start now...it doesn't really take me THAT long but procrastination takes a good long time !!! And it frustrates me so I'm trying to get it out to her SOON.
    Good luck with yours.
GORGEOUS HOOTIE!!! What kind of sandwich? :-)

  11. I'm celebrating the completion of getting my tax papers in order for the accountant. I finished this morning. Now all that I have to wait for is a break in the weather to deliver the packet.

  12. Boy, do I feel like that cat when I sit down to do taxes, and mine are pretty simple. The government needs to simple this $h*t up so I can fill out a postcard in five minutes and get back to more important things like grilling, drinking Jack Daniels and playing banjo...

How long you been playing banjo ? I enjoy hearing it and like the finger picking aspect.
