Another tune I liked and still do.
We skipped the light fandango
turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
but the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
as the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
the waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
as the miller told his tale
that her face, at first just ghostly,
turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, 'There is no reason
and the truth is plain to see.'
But I wandered through my playing cards
and would not let her be
one of sixteen vestal virgins
who were leaving for the coast
and although my eyes were open
they might have just as well've been closed
She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,'
though in truth we were at sea
so I took her by the looking glass
and forced her to agree
saying, 'You must be the mermaid
who took Neptune for a ride.'
But she smiled at me so sadly
that my anger straightway died
--Not in this version --
If music be the food of love [see note, left, about this verse + its opening]
then laughter is its queen
and likewise if behind is in front
then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
and attacked the ocean bed

The two verses printed here in green are not both available on any official record but they have quite often been heard in concert.
The 'mermaid' verse is played on the Union Chapel Live DVD
(Annie Lennox did a nice version of this song also)

"TOO Negative..."
ReplyDeleteso-you need a break from it all too!
sometimes my mind gets so roiled that I have trouble focusing...
Thanks for the break!
C-CS
Things will get better, we just may have to wait a while.
ReplyDeleteGreat tune.
ReplyDeleteMy blogging is down due to a severe bout of negativity.
I can't justify acting or sounding like a leftist libtard in the days when President Bush was in office.
Now we have The Obama and there is little I find good to say about anything the socialist does.
C-CS. yes, I sometimes get too myopic. Doesn't last long,as I am continually on the lookout for solutions to everything in a short while.
ReplyDeleteBeats insulting and complaining like the Libs love to do.

Trestin, things will get better no doubt. I do wonder how long. And of course it depends on the subject.
ReplyDeleteMortgage rates aren't getting much better. Government leadership isn't getting much worse.
Admiral, We are the same in that respect. What will it serve to point out the 40 Anti-American or just plain stupid things he does every day. ?
ReplyDeleteI'm hunkered down and waiting for late 2010, then I will hunker down and wait for late 2012.
In the meantime, I'll try to better my financial nest egg and such, work on the house, personal items, and come out of this slide ready to capitalize on the tremendous upswing that will surely come when the war on capitalism is ended. There will be great opportunity.
