    1. Cube, I'm so sorry. They're like your own children aren't they...

    3. I don't have any human children so I'll say other people's kids cost me too much money.

  2. Could it be something like an asteroid that hit earth millions of years ago? Is that ruled out for some reason?

    1. Z, That is a distinct possibility. If something came through the atmosphere at high speed it could have easily been burned down into a ball shape.

    2. That was my first thought too, Z.

I couldn't watch the video (Flash Player problems again!), but it seemed very odd that what looks like a near-perfect sphere could be formed in Nature. I know near-perfect geometric shapes appear in microcosm, but I can't think of an example in macrocosm.

Maybe Kid can help us out? He knows a LOT more about Science than I.

    3. FT, The only thing I can think of in nature producing a sphere would be things like oysters producing pearls, or more to this case, a rock trapped in a stream or river so that it is forced to rotate in all axis and is worn down by erosion. My bet is it was hand formed. There was a lot of that going on back when there was shit else to do beside look for food, look at the stars and have sex. :) ?

    6. But seriously...I didn't watch the video, either...did they rule OUT an asteroid or something? I'm guessing they'd know, right? (did I just make myself look even more scientifically stupid than ever before!?) !!!

    7. Z, You're certainly a genius ! I don't remember anything being ruled out. I saw a poll where most respondents (myself included) picked Ancient Civilization from a list which included asteroid, and alien constructed and a couple others. But you could very well be right. Almost all meteorites found on Earth are black for example.

  6. Aeons ago a race of giants inhabited the earth. They were a lot like us only much much larger. I suspect this "find" must be one of the balls they used when bowling.

Who knows how many tens of thousands of others lie buried beneath the roots of our forests?

    Just a thought. };^)>
