Now That's an Aurora !

The Phoenix Aurora over Iceland.

Click the picture to go to the APOD site to get a description of this thing and while there hover your mouse (or your cat) over the image to see the background constellations and see how big this thing is.
It's at least as big as obama's opinion of his worthless, naked emperor self.

  1. The Phoenix was so clear, I assumed it was a photoshop at first. The Grinder rises from the ashes! "The new aurora lasted only a minute and would be gone forever -- possibly dismissed as an embellished aberration..."

And the standard definition of 'embellished aberration' is: "obama's opinion of his worthless, naked emperor self." AMAZING!!!

    1. DeBlade. I always post the real deal. Along with this thing, I've been seeing clouds floating over Ohio for about a week now that seems almost biblical. Almost every cloud looking like a person, or an animal. Yesterday a Really hot looking woman floated by. Seriously.

  2. If the Hubble space telescope is able to take such clear photos of things a zillion miles from here, can it be trained on a single point on earth and focus in on somebody in Jalalbad writing down instructions for a jihad attack? Can it be repositioned, with thruster rockets, etc., or does it have to be manually moved? Or can it be moved at all from its current position in orbit?

As you can tell, I think the Hubble should be weaponized and used against all rag head endeavors. Are you with me, Kid?

    1. Fredd, Shhhhhhhhhhh. We already have satellites in orbit scanning all of the Earth every second of every day that can read your fingerprints, and maybe even read your thoughts. Word my friend. Why they don't harpoon that pimple in N Korea is beyond me.

Elect me, and I will harpoon the pimple.

    2. You got my vote, Kid. And when you harpoon that fat little shit, make sure it hurts. A lot.

    1. IMP, it's the perfect image of the Phoenix. It's Biblical. End Times a Comin Baby Maybe.

      -- Fine with me.

  4. I first looked and thought "What's that big green bird doing up there?"
    Man, this is wild!

  5. The image of Big Green Bird was exactly what occurred to me too.

    Everyone beat me to it.

And here I thought I was so smart, so original and uniquely perceptive! HAH! ;-)

Hey! Didn't this Aurora appear on St. Patrick's Day? Someone else sent me a private group-email of these Northern Lights taken in real time by an amateur photographer in Minnesota –– in -45ยบ weather no less! Everyone remarked on the green color, but I don't think anyone spotted the Big Bird.

Does anyone know why the Aurora Borealis appears only in places near the Arctic Circle? I've never heard of South Pole equivalent, but what I don't know about stargazing could fill a large university library no doubt.

    1. FT, According to the website - By 3:30 am in Iceland, on a quiet night last September,...

Auroras occur near the poles because of the magnetism of the Earth combined with energized particles from the Sun.
