Eileen Farrel was a down-to-earth lady, married to a New York City Policeman with whom she had several children. They lived modestly on Staten Island. "All right so far, but so what?" you ask?

Well, Eileen just happened to be one of the greatest dramatic sopranos of her generation, BUT she was no high and mighty stuffed shirt who put on airs, no sir! Late in her career she made an album she called I'VE GOT a RIGHT o SING the BLUES. Part of it is linked above. Much more is available on YouTube is you Google "Eileen Farrel sings the Blues."

Eileen was a true American Original –– a rare individual who bridged the gap between the Old and New Worlds and between High Culture and Pop Culture.

Very sadly, they just don't seem to make American Originals like this anymore.

      Anyway, same to you sir.

  7. Climax Blues Band was just OK back in the day. Better listening was to be had with Van Halen, Boston and The Brothers Johnson. But hey, what do I know?

    1. Fredd, Are you getting crotchety in your old age? Ok, Climax Blues was Ok. I can agree. I think this live album was their best and this being the best tune from the album, it never disappoints me.
Van Halen? They had a couple good tunes but definitely geared to the younger crowd with songs about having a crush on the teacher. I'll give them a mention, but never bought any of their albums.
Boston had a good sound but they were a little one note. Similar to U2. Only a couple songs come to mind from either.
The Brothers Johnson? I ain't never hoid of em !
How do you feel about Traffic ? Joe Cocker ? Led Zeppelin. That's more my style from that period.

    2. You can google the Brothers Johnson. I was a lousy bass player in a bad country band in the army that had no name, but loved the Brothers Johnson bass riffs, but I digress.....we nailed down three gigs, all at the NCO club, after the third gig we were asked never to come back. And I thought we were on our way to the big time. Sigh.....

Led Zeppelin had some good stuff for sure. Favorite LZ tune: What is and What Should Never Be. Loved John Belushi's impression of Joe, and of course Joe's "Feelin' Alright.' I can even play a bit of the opening piano riff, with a couple of drinks in me. Never was a Traffic guy. And I get your point about Boston. You could say the same thing about Toto, too. (sounds like the Wicked Witch of the West).

    3. Fredd, we are in perfect alignment for what that's worth.
