One of my favorite bands and one of the most talented Rock bands. I can't tell you the hours we listened to this band in college - you'd of thought they had just come out - but not, their music is good for all generations
Hey Kid - I love the Obama Budget Cuts "penny" Visualization. More people need to see that video...kinda an eye opener. And I agree - we American's can't visualize millions and trillions.
DeanO, Every hard rock band since the 70's has dreamed of being and tried to be The Doors. Nirvanna for example.
The Doors were it. First concert I actually went to was The Doors - Civic Arena - Pittsburgh. I was 15 or 16. Girls throwing their underwear on stage.
If I had any sense, I'd have grown my hair and tried to look like Jim Morrison. haha
Anyway, we spent a lot of time playing the doors. Usually while racing around Sewickley Heights near Pittsburgh. ;-) Endless country roads, mile long driveways and mansions, no cops.
In high school art I always did elaborate posters based on their songs that got showcased much to the chagrin of the principle,,lol.
Actually the one thing I shared with my Mother-in-law,RIP, was our love for the Doors. We had many a difference but put on the Doors and we could conversed peacefully and reach an understanding.
Opus, I hope you're not sick of them then. Some of their stuff was average yet always unique. Some of the tunes are still great and preferred listening for me.
Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine is one of the 30 albums I own from 30 years of Rock - and honestly, I should have bought most of the rest of theirs.
February is traditionally the coldest month throughout Memphis and the Mid-South. Feb. '11 started as expected, but we've been hovering between the 50s & 70s for over a week now. The temp is expected to dip back down to normal levels for a couple of nights, at least, but it seems the worst for us is over. Good luck.
Here's a Doors factoid. Ed Sullivan had them on and they sand Light My Fire. Ed thought he had it arranged wiht them to substitute a word for Higher in the lyric, 'I want to take you Higher'. Morrison double-crossed him and they were never invited back.
Great choice, Kid. I LOVE the Doors too. Their music and vids still stand up today. I have a few dvd's of the performances, and of course, most every CD.
PBS actually did a good special about a month ago (you can watch for free online) about Jim and the Doors. Tons of footage rarely seen, well worth watching.

DeanO. Yes, very well done on the pennies. Very simple and the man is right. People lose all conception when big numbers come into play.
ReplyDeleteHey Kid, Love the Doors!

Christopher. The Doors were incredible. Some of their stuff still is. It is timeless, and reaches across generations.
ReplyDeleteTheir music was Naked. Nothing left to expose. Everything went in.
The Doors. Great memories. My coworker at the record store had a thing for them. He had seniority so that is all we listened to for months.
