DeanO. There used to be on Youtube, Les McCann in concert in Germany, 2004. Unfortunately before I found about the download helper plugin for Firefox.! Fantastic! I'd buy the CD or preferably the DVD if it was available, but I've looked on Amazon and no go.
The Sax player was so good by the time the 3rd or 4th tune came along the audience went nuts with applause every time he put his lips to it. I can't remember all the tune snow, but there was Cold Duck Time, and a version of Sunny with a truly magnificent floor bass solo in it.
Les ! Put it on DVD or let it go back on Youtube ! ;-)
In Houston the music scene was downtown, a underground place called-you guessed it > The Cellar. Everyone who was anyone played there. I had 3rd row seat right in front of Les McCann. He played scales-when I closed my eyes (after a few glasses of wild turkey), that just carried me away. 1972- will never forget!
P.S. This place was small, maybe 50 people. Now that I think about it, the cellar was down the street. I can't remember the name of this place. The cellar was about 3 times the size of this perfect setting for someone like Less McCann. Anyway I will never forget seeing This guy tinkle the Ivery's.
I love it - I almost had to pull out a Spyro Gyra CD - I'm digging this - not the oil spill but the music is great
ReplyDeleteCould we maybe have a dirge?
ReplyDeleteWe I think it's time the oil spill gets it's own spot on the Taco Bell menu.

They Say. I saw him live at the bar at one of the Double Tree Inn's in Phoenix.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely magical and hypnotic.
Me being a stupido forgot to bring one of my favorite albums for him to sign - An Invitation to Openness.
It was just him and some guy playing some sort of long horn that would have charmed King Cobras right out of their skin.
During intermission, he was at the bar with 3 of the most beautiful women I've ever seen and I went up and said Hi. He gave me a wink and a nod.
Today, I'd buy them all a drink and not forget to bring the album.
PS, that was probably like 1987.
