I Miss Bob Marley

Bob never got a Grammy award.

Bob was  Musical Genius.  Damn, he made you want to move your dancing feet.

  1. I hate to break the news to you, Kid, but Bob Marley was a filthy, low life, dope smoking druggie maggot.

That, and I rate reggae right up their with rap when it comes to music lyrics that are detrimental to our culture. The music, fine. The lyrics gotta go.

Maybe he was a nice guy, though.

    1. To each their own Fredd! If I cared abut their personal lives, I wouldn't be left with much to listen to I'd say. :)

    2. Back in the day, I would purposely ignore lyrics, since I was only entertained by the music anyway. Now the lyrics are in my face. Two distinct music styles in 'Electric Avenue' and 'Danny's Song:' - "Seems as though a month ago I was beta chi, never got high, Oh, I was a sorry guy."

Sounds to me as though Kenny Loggins was decribing a pillar of the community as a sorry guy.

Then of course, Eddie Grant telling me to just 'rock down to Electic Avenue, and let me take you higher.' No thanks, Fast Eddie.

I agree: to each his own.

    3. Fredd, I was a music/melody guy for the longest time. I hear tunes now and think, is That what they were talking about? ;-)

Here's another piece of info. The flash drive that plugs into my dashboard for preferred music has about 580 tuns from the 50's through to today. I left a Lot of it in the gutter.

    4. I know the sentiment, Kid. I loved the Kink's tune 'Lola' back in the day. Back when I didn't bother to connect the dots on the lyrics.

And only lately, maybe 20 years ago, I actually listened to Lola's lyrics, and gasped: Lola's a TRANSVESTITE!! What??!!?? And I LIKED this tune? Does that make me gay??? God, I hope not!!!

    5. Fredd, describes pretty well my own surprise at hearing the lyrics of several tunes much later on. ;-)

  2. "I shot the sheriff
But I didn't shoot no deputy, oh no! Oh!
    I shot the sheriff
But I didn't shoot no deputy, ooh, ooh, oo-ooh."

    1. Well it's interesting that Fredd objects so strenuously to his lyrics.
"I Shot the Sheriff"(he deserved it) was atypical and I can't see how Marley was "detrimental to the culture".

  3. If you like music, then "let it be"? Yeah, I hate the Beatles, I like some of the songs and they did. They did little to improve society.

    1. Admiral, yes, they did little to improve society, They ran from socialism and high taxes and now mccartney wants socialism and dumb ass liberalism here, there, and everywhere.

I do like a lot of the Beatles stuff though. They were talented musicians and song writers.

But yea what an enigma. Millions of screaming girls everywhere they went. Probably why I waited til 36 to get married the 1st time, shoulda waited til 46.

  4. What's with the sheriff lyrics? Some hidden meaning?

Was Marley the"don't worry, be happy guy?"
