For those who don’t know, here are some famous genocides perpetrated on unarmed societies, but the real argument comes afterward using today’s statistics in ‘civilized modern countries’.
A LITTLE GUN HISTORY
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 40 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. You’ve recently heard about the US Congress wringing their hands over whether condemn this as genocide for fear of making Turkey angry.
In 1938, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. That doesn’t include WWII military death.
In 1935, China established gun control. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1964, Guatemala established gun control. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1970, Uganda established gun control. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1956, Cambodia established gun control. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
Regardless, I doubt many people are worried about genocide in the USA. I’m not actually, so let’s move on to current times and the actual disturbing truth about crime and gun control.
Australian Crime Statistics
Australia banned guns in 1996. Almost all crimes associated with guns or assaults on the now unarmed went up.
According to this study, Accidental gun deaths, assault rates both up. Robbery and armed robbery went up from 1996 to 2003, then came back to 1996 levels. Murder and gun murder stayed about the same. They don’t talk about home invasion specifically; maybe those are included in assaults and robberies. So in the best case scenario, certain crime levels ended up about the same by 2004 and statistics not shown after 2004 in this study. Others still up.
So, what was the point of disarming?
England Crime Statistics
Here is an Excel format chart showing crimes where firearms were used and the numbers go up consistently, click on the Excel or CSV download link. This goes to 2001. Would you guess things are better or worse now ?
In England, 1 in 3 Youths Carry Gun or Knife.
The Youth Justice board has found that one in three young people carry a knife or gun and a crime is committed by a young person every two minutes. [6 March 2009] Hardline Scottish knife policy a success The Solicitor General of Scotland has announced that their tough policy on knives has resulted in more than 600 arrests. [2 March 2009]
In the case of Scotland, doesn’t that remind you of the endless, non-fruitful arresting of marijuana smokers in the US ? Maybe there are so many knives because guns are a little harder to get for youths. Do a little research and you can easily make the case that you’d rather be shot than stabbed. I would. Knives do a lot more damage to vital organs, depending on the specific circumstances.
Here, you can browse all of the crime statistics for England and the UK
This picture is from an islamic protest in England. Would you want to be disarmed in this environment ? And the islamic ‘tension’ is rising in the US and our government isn’t doing Jack about it, outside of elevating the muslims to a higher state of protection for fear of ‘racial profiling’. (Insert your favorite profanity here).
So, what’s the point ? Crime goes up.
The authorities don’t Stop crime, they investigate it.
What if America was invaded by another country ? Remember, the leader of Japan’s military said he’d never invade the USA because “There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass”.
What about your basic right to Defend Yourself !?
the history of controlling the populous goes waaaay back - doesn't it-
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of the Hebrews having to go to the Philistine smiths' forges to have their plow-shares made and/or sharpened-
the Hebrews were not allowed to have fire hot enough to form metal-thus-they could not make -nor in any way - form weapons---
No thing changes and the Founders knew it-thus-the Second Amendment..
Carol-CS
Carol-CS, you know more about that than I do, but generally, there have always been leaders of tribes, villages, and civilizations. They always want to rule the world.
ReplyDeleteThe English were absolutely brutal around the time the pioneers came to America. Too bad there isn't another continent we conservatives can go to and start over. Let the liberals have this failed experiment to rot in.
RE:your comment at my site-yes-I made a general link back to your site-not specific-let me know if you want a specific -directed to this post...
ReplyDeleteI want to stand here in the Constitutional US-take back our ed system so our young are given true history-reading- Latin -writing -math-
It may take awhile-looking long term -
Carol-CS
Carol, No I was inquiring about the text on the last line of your post. It looked like it would be a link to something, maybe just an error.
ReplyDeleteNo problems relating to my site ! :)
On Education, Yes, I absolutely believe taking back our education system is number One on the list. We need to get the political agenda out of the schools yesterday. They've poisoned two generations of our youth already.
Isn't it wild? Libs go nuts over this non-existent separation of Church and State yet have no problem handing out papers that show Libs as Angels and Conservatives as the Devil. Well, you're not a lib if you not Uber-Hypocritical !
Jeeesh.
got it straightened out-thanks to my off -spring-take a look :-)
ReplyDeletethanks my friend-and I learned something else about the 'ethereal' blog world...

Very interestin. Here in norway we are not allowed to go with guns.but on the other hand there is much violence with knifes ect..most of it comes from people abroad.
ReplyDeleteThanx for commentonmy blog.Wish you a happy day:))
Hi Kid. I don't dispute the point you make about genocide and gun ownership. There are plenty of countries where I would like to own a gun if I lived there!
ReplyDeleteI also won't produce links to statistics that show that the UK is a far less violent place to live than the US because I know you won't accept them and I would agree there can be disparities in the way this data is collected.
However, based on my recent EXPERIENCE of living all over the UK, and of living in a relatively "safe" part of the US (and I visited a few American cities I would never set foot in again!!) and of having travelled all over Australia, I know where I as a woman and mother feel safest - and it's not the USA.
I have no issue with civilised, responsible people owning guns - because I know they would only use them in extremis - but I don't feel the same level of confidence about many people in society. Yes they can get knives but it's more tricky for someone to take a pot shot at me from a building or a car with a knife!
Here in the UK people still feel confident walking across town and taking public transport and just enjoying their surroundings. In the US people were fearful it seemed - everyone locked themselves into their homes and travelled from A to B by car for safety. To me that's not living.
But having said all that you probably can't turn the clock back - the bad guys and the disturbed and the irresponsible all have the guns now - what is the point of disarming the responsible? Thought-provoking post.
sure do wish we could start over too! Have a beautiful weekend~!:)
ReplyDeleteAnita, I'm glad you found it interesting. I think all people anywhere have the right to be able to defend themselves.
ReplyDeleteWell, I love the pictures on your blog. You keep posing them, I'll keep looking at them. :)
Cambridge_Lady, Well the link to the England Crime Statistics is the UK Government's web site. I'm not sure what links would argue with your government's web site, but if you have some I'd like to see them and include them in any future commentary I have if they make reasonable argument with the UK's information.
ReplyDeleteOn the USA, Yes, I agree. There seem to be pockets around each major city that are absolutely brutal and not even fit to drive through.
And in 9 months of living in England, I never met an Englander that I had a problem with. So, I agree with your comments.
(And just for clarity, I'm simply displaying the statistics that show crime going up in places were guns are illegal. I'm not comparing England to the US, as that would be Nolo Contendre.)
I'm simply going by the numbers, and my own knowledge that predators attack the weak not the strong. Which should be obvious to everyone, but...
Your last line says it all and is my main thought in all this. I personally think any violence is Insane, but this is the world we live in and it's been this way a long long time. Let's all defend ourselves form evil and reject any government's push to disarm us.
Woman, yes, fantasies. You have a great weekend. Well, have a good week now I guess.
ReplyDeleteHi Kid! You are very correct. They want out guns to control us, and then the criminals will have even more guns. Yeah, Ted tells it like it is.
ReplyDeleteYou keep safe with that freezing rain, that is almost worse than snow, except when it's Snowpocalypse with 50 wph winds and 2 feet plus. The drifts in my yard are about that now, YIKES! I hope both our power stays on and we survive. Take care of yourself.
50 Mph wind? Wow. I wonder what kind of stories we'll be seeing tomorrow...
ReplyDeleteThis is all al gores' fault you know.
Mother nature loves to stuff it to buttheads like him.
