I'm thinking that working and playing with Chet was either awesome or a holy terror. Could you imagine playing with one of the greatest guitar players of all time, flawless in his practice...that's a lot of pressure - I think
DeanO, there's got to be some truth to your suspicion. Though I've also heard he was very shy (by his admission on his teaching tapes) and got along very well with those he played and traveled with. Granted they were always talented folks.
If they didn't cut it they wouldn't have been there I guess.
Admiral. Me too. That Malaguena was what I tried like hell to play with a single string pick when I was 13 - since I had no idea he was using a thumb pick and three more fingers. Interestingly, Tommy Emmanuel actually did learn how to play this stuff with a single pick and a few more fingers. You'll see him using that technique on the Endless Road tune.
DeanO, PS, he was harder on himself than anyone else. Never achieving what he could imagine, always seeking perfection, which is no doubt why he was usually perfection to our ears.

ReplyDeleteI always make time for Chet!
ReplyDeleteI would have worn a dinner jacket too except I was 3 years old.
